Making the move?

As your business grows, your office may need to grow with it. This can often mean it’s time to pack up and make the move to a bigger space which can be stressful and there are a lot of things to consider. Telecoms is often one of the last things’ people think about when it comes to moving office and this can cause more stress and potentially long delays on getting your business connected, which in turn could lose your business money with downtime or even extra charges to get you up and running quickly.

I may be moving in the future…

When it comes to your telecoms and making the move, there are some key things to consider. We decided to put together a list of these things for our clients so, should they ever consider moving, they’re telecoms don’t cause any unwarranted bills or stress and now we’ve decided to share this with you!

BTT’s top 5 things to consider when making the move:

1. Phone numbers

If you haven’t already invested in SIP instead of ISDN then it may be costly when making the office move. If you are unable to take your phone number with you, you’re going to need to get anything that shows your company number changed. Business cards, pens, brochures, website, online databases, there’s a lot to think about!

With SIPor a Hosted Phone System you can take your numbers with you, so if you think there may be a chance you could move at any point in the future, now is the time to make the upgrade!

2. Business Broadband

We’ve touched on this a fair amount in the past few months, most businesses want and/or need superfast broadband. With so many adopting cloud-based solutions, from phone lines to data storage the need for a strong connection is vital. You will need to check that wherever you are planning on moving to has the infrastructure to deal with your internet needs.

3. Serviced Offices

When moving into a serviced office you will need to find out whether you can take your own data and voice solutions with you. If you can’t, are they able to add your phone numbers to their systems? If it’s your first office and they’re giving you numbers, will you be able to take them with you should you want to leave and what would be the charges for doing so?

4. Cabling

Phone and computer cabling is one of the most overlooked areas when it comes to moving office.

There can be a significant cost when it comes to cabling and you don’t want to get hit with a huge bill. Find out whether your new office space has the right infrastructure for you and, as long as you haven’t left it to the last minute, you then have time to put your own in place. Learn more about the different types of cables and their importance, here.

5. Servers

When it comes to servers, are you going to need to bring your own or do you have access to theirs? Will you be able to access them as and when you need? If you need to provide your own is there enough space to install exactly what your business needs?

There’s a lot more to think about than I thought…

As we said, telecoms are often one of the most overlooked areas when it comes to moving offices.
