What is a Busy Lamp Field?

A Busy Lamp Field is phone system feature.

On a phone handset, most phones have little buttons next to fields of text which you may assign to a specific user’s extension or line. When that user is on the phone, the button will highlight as “busy” by the (usually red) LED light staying on until they are no longer busy. Likewise, if they aren’t logged in, it will show as unavailable.
